The University of Kentucky Department of Physics and Astronomy welcomes strongly motivated BRIDGE students into our MS/PhD programs. We offer a Lyman T. Johnson Diversity Fellowship, supplemented with a half-teaching assistantship. All students will receive advising, mentoring, and peer support from an inclusive community of faculty, staff, and students. Courses will be individually selected by the student in consultation with their academic advisor in preparation for the PhD core curriculum. These courses include the advanced curriculum, topical courses in modern areas of physics and astronomy, research, and special topics reading courses. Students will gain insight into ongoing research in the Department during a first-year seminar series and then do full-time research during the summer in one of the following areas: observational and theoretical astrophysics, atomic physics experiment, condensed matter physics experiment and theory, materials physics, nuclear physics experiment and theory, and high energy theory. Our ultimate goal is to transition MS BRIDGE students into our PhD program.
